Julianna's designs

How I Started to Create Grapic Designs

My name is Julianna Sloat, and I am 23 years old. I live in the Hudson Valley, in New York. I have been studying Graphic Design for nearly a decade. I started to gain an interest in graphic design, when I joined the yearbook club in middle school. I then joined yearbook, as a class in high school. This is where I was introduced to Adobe In-Design. While, in this course, I customized senior pages, for each senior's interests. For example, a student who stared in musicals had music illustrations, on their page, and a student who played baseball, had baseball illustrations. The customized yearbook pages that I created inspired me to take a media arts course my senior year of high school. In this course, I was introduced to Adobe Photoshop, And Abobe Illustrator. From then on, I knew that I wanted to become a graphic designer, to bring joy to others through designs, that I am able to create for them to enjoy.

College Years

I graduated from SUNY Orange in Spring 2019 with my Associates of Applied Science. While, I attended this college, I competed in many poster, and brochure contests for the school, and for businesses around the community. Through this, I was able to learn what it was like to work in the provessional field. I also held a graphic design  internship position, at the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill (ERVK), to create design collateral for their Girls Leadership Worldwide program. I was in a similar program that EVRK offered, ECCEL. This leadership program taught me useful skills on how to be a successful individual in my adult years.

I am about to earn my Bachelor's of Arts degree from SUNY Empire in May, 2021. During my time at SUNY Empire, I took diverse graphic design courses, including an information design course, a digital painting course, and an  advanced graphic design course. I am confident that SUNY Empire, has given me the knowlege to be a successful graphic designer in the professional world.
